For generations, black families have been struggling to gain equality that the average white person already has. It's about time Oregon doesn't something about that. The 5 steps of justice.
1. First off, we will go through Oregon's prison record and find ALL who have been convicted and sent to jail on possession of drugs, or, minor misdemeanors that received an unfair and long sentencing. These people mentioned that are in prison happen to be disproportionately black people.
We can expunge their conviction and get them back in society starting on the right foot. Help them with job training and immediate housing.
2. Redlining has been affecting black families for generation who have been unfairly treated in the financing and lending practices. While reparations might not come to fruition anytime soon, what we can offer is zero state property taxes for 3-years for all black families purchasing of a home. This will only come into affect for new home purchases and not retroactively. Redlining has set back black families for generations to come. This is the least we can do to help them gain an equal footing within the housing market.
3. If you belong to a larger company, we can all help by advocating for black employees to move higher up in positions along with higher pay. Getting promotions and moving up in pay can create a ripple effect throughout a family in such a positive way.
4. Helping more black people easily run for political office. Getting them involved and allowing their voices to be heard. Make it easier for their thoughts and ideas to be implemented into action. I want to encourage black people to run for more elected positions. Let's make it easier to get their names on the ballots. Your will be heard and recognized.
5. Our administration will help to create a community of black owned businesses and to help them thrive. A flurry of new African-flavored restaurants, clothing boutiques and shops of all styles. Our goal is to is to make it easier for new start-ups and empower black-owned companies which will also include land ownership.
We will focus on this model: https://www.africatownlandtrust.org/
